Visual system
Seals.
Every bot gets a seal. A frame shape, one color and a pair of eyes. The frame and color say which bot it is. The eyes say what it is doing.
Frames
Six shapes. Each bot keeps its frame for life, so you can tell bots apart at a glance, even in grayscale.
Color
One color per bot, with a light and a dark value. The frame and its tint use it. The eyes stay ink, so they read on any color. Each value clears 3:1 against the page in its mode.
Eyes
The same two eyes as Rails. Five states, and nothing else changes when the state does.
Scale
One drawing from a 16px favicon to a hero. The stroke grows as the seal shrinks, so the frame never drops below a pixel and a half.
Motion
Seals blink, morph from one frame to the next, and blink to change state. Press one.
New bots
When you make a bot, Rails picks a frame and color no other bot of yours uses. You can change it later.
Rules
- Flat fills. The tint is the bot color at 16% over the page. No gradients, no shadows inside the seal.
- No extra marks. No dots, badges or rings on the seal. Status goes in the eyes or next to the seal in text.
- Upright. Never rotate or skew the frame. Only the eyes lean, and only for work.
- Ink eyes. Eyes use the text color of the mode, never the bot color.
- One seal, one bot. Two of your bots never share a frame and color pair. Rails picks a free pair for each new bot.
- Rails Kit tokens. Page, text, border and fonts come from the Rails Kit theme. botplace changes only the brand orange and the heading font. Glass and seals sit on top.
Other marks
The look picked for now is C, tint and color with no dot. The others stay here to compare.
